About our Salon
Established in 2005 by Mellanie Smith, Saving Face Health & Beauty has always been owner/operated and has evolved into an east coast icon. Over the course of the last 20 years the beauty industry has changed so much. To stay relevant and in demand we have always kept up with the latest technologies. The advanced skin treatments we provide at Saving Face cannot only slow down the ageing process in the skin but reverse the damage caused by environmental and genetic tendencies with skin health at the forefront of every treatment offered.

ABBY
Senior Beauty TherapistHi, I’m Abby and I am an internationally qualified Beauty Therapist. I studied Beauty Therapy in Hamilton for a year before beginning my first job in the industry here at Saving Face. Making people beautiful and condent about themselves and their own image is something I love to do and find Beauty therapy is the perfect way to do so. I really enjoy being around people and having a few laughs and some fun. I also enjoy keeping up with all the latest trends and beauty tips and tricks. I hope to see you in here soon and look forward to making your experience one you won’t forget!!

Senior Beauty TherapistAs a teenager I've always had bad acne and it was through facials and the correct products that helped my skin and confidence, hence I got into the beauty industry. After graduating from beauty school in Auckland, I ended up being a spa therapist instead and got to work around NZ before trying my hand at waxing for 5 years. I moved to Whakatane 2.5 years ago and took a small break from the industry but realise how much I miss it. I feel skincare should be my next focus since it's the reason why I got into the industry and so lucky to have joined Saving Face.
MELLANIE
Senior Therapist & OwnerHi, I have been in the beauty industry for 26 years. I am a results driven person and my deep desire is to deliver professional treatments, achieving results for our clients and return confidence and vitality. I very much enjoy giving to people and that is why I also volunteer 70 hours of my time per month to helping people with life’s difficulties and teaching them that there is purpose to life and hope for the future (outside of work hours). I love the beach and the beautiful place we live here in Whakatane! I have two adult daughters. I hope you enjoy your experience with us.
CARL
Laser Technician & OwnerHi, I am proud to partner my wife Mell in the business that she started in 2005. I have worked as a Roofer, Saw Doctor, Truck driver and Kitchen Joiner, but I have really enjoyed this industry over the last 17 years. I trained as an IPL and Laser technician. I love helping people remedy their skin issues and to feel more confident about themselves. The things I enjoy outside of work are; Water sports, motor-sports, mountain biking, and walking on the beach with Mell. I spend about 70 hours a month in voluntary work as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses with Disaster Relief and Building Construction and also helping people improve their lives by applying practical Bible principles.
