DSL ELOS (Laser Hair Reduction)
Permanent Hair Reduction
We have the very latest and most effective technology available… elos permanent hair removal system – DSL (Depilatory Service Laser). As far as we know, we are the first clinic to bring this technology to NZ. Unwanted body or facial hair affects millions of women and men. A variety of methods such as waxing, plucking, shaving and depilatory creams have been used to remove such hair. These methods provide very temporary relief. Electrolysis may provide a more permanent solution, but is very slow and quite painful and may produce scarring. Using the ‘DSL’ is a safe, more comfortable way of reducing unwanted hair. It utilizes technology that combines light, electrical energy and cooling. The DSL targets the hair roots precisely without damaging the surrounding skin, regardless of your skin type. The DSL handpiece has a special chilled tip which is placed in contact with the skin. This reduces the sensation experienced, and also protects the skin from heat produced by the laser/hair reaction.
What is the advantage of elos hair removal systems?
There is no exclusionary criteria based on skin type or hair colour (the treatment approach for apigmented (light coloured) hairs is different than treating dark hair and the response rate may be less predictable). The DSL applicator has an added benefit of treating large zones very fast
Is the treatment safe?
Treatment is very safe for the skin. There are many advances in the technology that make elos one of the safest hair removal systems available for all skin colours. There are no long term health hazards from laser or electric energies used in elos. Both optical and radio frequency have been used for decades in medicine, surgery, and aesthetics without adversity.
What results can one expect from the elos treatment?
Each DSL treatment will result in less hair coming back, as well as hair growing progressively lighter in color, finer, and slower-growing with each treatment. One study showed 35-42% clearance 3 months after a single treatment. It takes more than 1 treatment to affect all the follicles growing in an area. Most people achieve satisfactory clearance after 6-8 treatments, but individual results vary depending on medical and genetic factors. Lighter colored hair may require more treatments than darker colored hair. Hair can be removed from almost any area provided we can get safe access. The treated hair may appear to still grow for a while, but this is actually just the hair being ejected.
What happens after each elos hair removal treatment
Temporary pinkness in the skin lasts a very short time, and most people return to work or normal activities immediately after treatment. The treated area will “shed” some hairs over the next 2-4 weeks, and patients may experience a period of hairlessness in the area while you wait for your next treatment. Sun exposure should be avoided after treatment and sunscreen should be worn each day. Some people, especially those with darker skins, may experience some darkening or lightening of the skin in the treated area. This is usually temporary, but may in some cases be permanent
How frequently does one need elos hair removal treatments?
Recommended treatment interval for the face is 4 weeks and for the body 6-12 weeks. Who should get elos treatment for Hair Removal? Anyone who wants a permanent solution to shaving, waxing, plucking, or electrolysis. There are few medical conditions that contraindicate people from treatment. What is the average number of treatments for elos hair removal, dark hair? The average number of treatments is 6-8 to achieve satisfactory clearance, but some patients may require more or less. Men’s backs and chests, facial hair and hormonal hair take more than the average number of sessions, usually 8 or more. Even people who get very good initial clearance, may experience some later regrowth. This will, however, be of lighter, finer hair. Later in life, some hairs may convert to coarser hairs eg. after menopause. These hairs can still be treated, however fine, downy hairs will be only minimally affected.
